Hey, y'all! I've been at it again. At what? Practicing my hand-lettering skills. I am a little obsessed with hand-lettering, and I love trying to think of new ways to use my hand-lettering to make freebies for y'all. Well, with Christmas right around the corner, I decided that it would be fun to use one of my many favorite Christmas movies--Elf--to inspire some hand-lettering. I converted that hand-lettering to a Silhouette cut file and made two different Elf-Inspired Hand-Lettered Christmas Mugs, and I'm sharing the free cut file with you later in the post!
My husband and I go Christmas movie crazy during the month of December. We watch soooo many different Christmas movies, but one of our current favorites is Elf. Yes, Buddy the Elf is a little immature and out of touch with reality, but that's what makes him funny! I love the little unique figures of speech that he uses in the move, and I thought they'd be perfect on mugs.
Open the file, size the hand-lettered phrases to fit your mug (or anything really), and cut the phrases from permanent vinyl. Weed the vinyl sayings and use transfer paper or clear contact paper to transfer the vinyl designs onto the your mugs.
Just so you know, you can often find plain mugs at the dollar store. I bought the mugs I used from Walmart, and they were less than a dollar each. And on a side note, I realized when I was putting this post together that Buddy actually says, "Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins." But you know what? I had already done too much work on this post to stress about an S on the end of a made up phrase (even thought it still secretly bothers me on the inside). If it bothers you, you can squeeze an S on the end.
I can't wait to fill these mugs with hot chocolate and watch Elf with the hubby!
Make a set of these to give to the Elf-lover in your life. Of course, you should probably pair them with syrup because syrup tastes great on everything, right? The gift is sure to bring a smile to the recipient's face, and that will work out great because don't we all love to smile?
Smiling's my favorite!

ReplyDeleteYou are adorable! And your hand-lettering is GORGEOUS. Two of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. Brava! #pinning
ReplyDeleteThese are great and I will make some for the grands. This is one of there most favorites. TFS!! You are so creative.
ReplyDeleteAre they dishwasher and/or microwave safe?
ReplyDeleteBecause of the vinyl, you would want to hand wash these, and I wouldn't suggest microwaving them.
