I used a few supplies to take my pumpkin from cheap to chic.

Supplies:
- Dollar Store Carve-able Pumpkin
- Sizzix BIGkick
- Pair of Standard Cutting Pads
- Camellia Bigz Die
- Scrapbook Paper
- Waverly Chalk Paint: Plaster and Agave ***I know that Peacock is in the photo, but I realized when I uploaded the photos I took a picture with the wrong paint color. Blogger fail.
- Matte Varnish
- Paint Brush
- Glue Stick and/or Double Stick Adhesive Roller
- Ribbon
- Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue Sticks
First, paint the pumpkin. I painted the entire pumpkin with Waverly chalk paint in the color Agave. (I used this brand paint simply because it's sold at my local Walmart, and that's about the only place to shop in my small town.)
Then paint the stem. I used the same Waverly chalk paint in the color Plaster.
To complete the actual pumpkin makeover, seal the paint. I used a matte varnish, but you can use whatever sealer you like. While the varnish is drying, begin making the paper flower.
To make the flower, place scrapbook paper over the Camellia Bigz Die. The die cuts all the different flower pieces so that you can layer them to create a three-dimensional flower. I cut small pieces of scrapbook paper and placed them over the parts of the flower I wanted that specific color. Sandwich the paper and die between two standard size cutting pads and roll it through your Sizzix BIGkick. I repeated this process twice so that I could have two sets of each size of flower petals and two leaves.
Using a paint brush curl the edges of the flower petals so that they look more life-like. Using double-sided adhesive or a glue stick (I used a combo of both), adhere the petals together from largest to smallest, making sure to alternate the petal alignment.
Roll the fringed paper into a stamen and place the roll through the hole in the center of the flower.
Fan out the stamen so it looks more life-like.
Use hot glue to attach some ribbon around the middle of the pumpkin. Glue the flower and leaves to the pumpkin to complete the makeover.
Isn't it cute?! I love decorating for fall, but I like to do it on my own terms. What I mean is that I like to stick to my color scheme. If you remember my TV Gallery Wall post, you know that my living room color scheme features different shades of blue, along with a few pops of orange. If I create fall decor that fits within my color scheme, I have to do minimal decorating. I can use lots of what I already have and just add coordinating fall decor items.
This pumpkin is going to be perfect on my mantel! And it goes well with my other pumpkins that I worked on this weekend, so get ready for a few more dollar store pumpkin makeovers coming at you later this week.
Happy pumpkin crafting!
I love this idea! I get a lot of seasonal decor at the dollar tree..because its $1, but some stuff looks cheap. I love how you made these so pretty! I will definitely have to try this!
