Embossed Metal & Bead Tassel Necklace

Hey, y'all! I am so excited about today's post because I'm sharing what is probably my favorite jewelry tutorial to date. I have been seeing tassel jewelry all over the place, and I've wanted a bracelet or a necklace with a tassel. But since I make jewelry all the time, I hated to buy something without trying to make my own tassel jewelry first. That's how my Embossed Metal & Bead Tassel Necklace was born. It's so pretty, and it's surprisingly easy to make.
To make your own tassel necklace, you'll need several tools and supplies, which I'll list below the supply picture. The supply list contains links that are affiliate links. Supplies Needed:
First take the Vintaj metal blank and, using a metal punch, punch a hole in it opposite the prepunched hole.
Then place the metal blank inside the Flora Decor DecoEmbossing Folder on the part of the design you'd like embossed on the metal. Close the folder, place it between two cutting pads, and place that on top of the solo platform and shim. Roll that through your Sizzix BIGkick.
Then open the folder to reveal your embossed blank.
To make the embossed design pop, use the Vintaj Metal Reliefing Block to highlight the raised portion of the design. (For this necklace, I would suggest using the block on both sides of the blank.) Then it's time to create the beaded portion of the necklace.
Select some beads that coordinate well together and create a symmetrical design. I used a bead board for this step of the process to make sure my beads didn't roll around and make the beading process a little easier. I wanted a really long necklace so I made each beaded side about 10 1/2" long.
Cut a piece of beading wire long enough to hold your beads with a little excess on each end. Thread the beading wire through a crimp bead, around a small jump ring and back through the crimp bead and use a crimping tool to secure the wire.
Thread your beads onto the wire following the pattern that you designed. When you get to the end, thread the wire through a crimp bead, around a small jump ring and back through the crimp bead. Use a crimping tool to secure the crimp bead around the wire. Cut any excess beading wire off of each end. Repeat to create the other beaded side of the necklace. Then make your tassel.
Making a tassel is really easy. Find a piece of card stock or cardboard the length you'd like your tassel to be. Wrap embroidery floss around the card stock until you have the desired thickness of your tassel. Open a large jump ring and place it around the embroidery floss at the top of the card stock. Slide the embroidery floss off of the card stock and tie another piece of embroidery floss around the top of the floss bunch. Once the floss is secure, cut the bottom of the bunch so that the strings hang loosely. Trim to the desired length of your tassel. (If you need a little more explanation, check out this post.) Then it's time to put all the pieces of the necklace that you've made together.
Cut a piece of chain the desired length to add to the beaded portions of the necklace. (You don't need a clasp if you're making a long necklace because you can just slide the necklace over your head.) Using round nose pliers and flat nose pliers, open the jump rings on the ends of the beaded strands, insert the end of the chain and close.
Now open a large jump ring and use it to attach the other ends of the beaded strands together. Use a small jump ring to attach the embossed metal blank to the necklace. Use another small jump ring to attach the tassel to the blank.
Then your beautiful necklace is complete!
I adore my necklace! I love long necklaces, but I don't have that many of them. This one with its metal blank paired with the wooden beads, chain, and tassel is sure to become a favorite accessory!
And since it's pink, it matches lots of pieces in my wardrobe.
The great thing about the necklace is that you can use different color beads, a different DecoEmboss die or a different metal blank shape to customize the necklace to your taste.
