Metal Stamped Geometric Earrings
Hey, y'all! I have a quick and easy metal stamping tutorial for you today: Metal Stamped Geometric Earrings. If you're scared of metal stamping because you don't know if you can line up your letters correctly or maybe you'll misspell something or you don't want to buy a whole set of metal stamp letters, this is the project for you! You don't have to worry about any of that with these earrings, and you can complete this project in three steps.
First of all, you need to gather your supplies. I initially received my beginner metal stamping supplies from Goody Beads, and I've added to my collection since then.
Supplies needed:
Note: I didn't end up using the Sharpie. #supplyphotofail
The first step to making the earrings is stamping the triangle blanks with the vertical lines stamp. I stamped each triangle from top to bottom with the vertical lines, and then I stamped top to bottom by using the stamp "sideways" so that the vertical lines were horizontal. This created a basket weave pattern on the blanks. I started by taping the triangles in two places with the stamping tape before I started stamping, but it was hard to stamp the entire triangle with so much tape, so by the end, I was just stamping without tape. Please note that brass blanks are pretty hard, so you REALLY have to hit the stamp hard with the hammer.
The next step in the earring making process is punching holes in the metal triangles so that you can connect them. Using a metal punch, punch a hole at the top of each large triangle and in the top and bottom middle of each small triangle.
Once all your holes are punched, it's time to connect the triangles. Using a small jump ring and your pliers, attach the top of the large triangle to the bottom of the small triangle. Open the loop on the earring hook and attach it to the top of the small triangle. Repeat for the next earring. Then your earrings are complete!
I really love the texture on these earrings!
I'm pretty sure these will be my go-to earrings for the summer.
If you've been on the fence about trying metal stamping, this is definitely the project for you.
