{Personalized Chevron Plaque}

To make one, first you'll need a wooden plaque and letters.

Begin by painting your plaque and letters.

I painted the front edges and back of my plaque strawberry, and I painted the top pink flamingo.  I painted the letters gold.  In the Pitter and Glink household, we don't leave anything plain, so I decided to create a chevron design on the top of the plaque.  You could create any design you like, but here's how I created the chevron.

I used my Silhouette to cut out zig-zag stickers from contact paper, and I stuck them to my plaque in a pattern I liked.  In order to keep paint from seeping under my stickers and creating a mess, I used this little trick.

I painted over the stickers with the base color of paint.  That way, if any seepage occured, it wouldn't be noticeable.  Then I started painting the colors to create my design.

I used a pouncer to apply different colors of Martha Stewart pearl and glitter paint to my plaque.

I took the stickers off the plaque and used some paint pens to add to the design.

I "antiqued" my design by rubbing a black and brown ink pad over the top of the plaque, concentrating on the edges especially.  And then I decided I didn't quite like my design the way it was.  (Yeah, that happens a lot to me.)  I used the paint pens on the plaque until I was satisfied with the design.  Once you're satisfied with your design, it's time to embellish your letters.

I applied Mod Podge to the top of my letters and sprinkled them with antique gold glitter.

Once you're finished with your letters, glue them to your plaque.  Then spray the entire sign with a coat or two of clear spray paint or sealer. (This will keep the glitter from ending up all over everything!)  Then you will have your very own personalized plaque!  

I really love the pearly paint.  I use it every chance I get!

And, of course, I love the glitter!  I'm all for anything that sparkles, which I'm sure y'all know by now.

I'm really glad I ended up tweaking the chevron design instead of settling with my first design.  The black helps the letters pop against the background.  Wouldn't something like this be cute in a nursery or kid's room?  Or how about use a number instead of letters to create a unique house number plaque?  This project is only limited by your imagination!
