Juice Carton Christmas House Ornament

I have a very cute, simple craft for y'all today.  I recently went through the BK drive-thru for breakfast, and I ordered some OJ.  It came in an adorable little carton.  My mind is always ready to jump at any inkling of a craft idea, so when I saw the carton, I immediately thought, "Christmas house!"  I first cut the carton down some so that it was be a bit more "house-like."

I also cute part of the top off so that when I made the roof it would be flat against the top of the carton.  I primed the house with gesso and then painted it with antique white paint.  I cut pieces from an old book page to cover the house.

I used Mod Podge to apply the book pages to the carton.  After that dried, I put a coat of Mod Podge over the entire house to seal it and give it some strength.  While that dried, I worked on the roof.  I took small popsicle sticks, cut them to fit the roof, and painted them with Martha Stewart metallic paint and glitter paint.  

I used hot glue to attach the roof to the carton, which was starting to look more and more like a house.

I wanted my house to have windows and a door.  I cut small shapes from scrapbook paper and Mod Podged them to the house.  I outlined the windows and door with puff paint.  

 

The paint dried a little wonkity looking.  (I think I just made up a word...)  To camouflage the wonkitiness, I applied Mod Podge to the puff paint and covered it with glitter.

Since this was going to be an ornament, it needed a hanger.  I took some jewelry wire I had sitting around and made a loop.  I used a craft knife to poke a little hole in the roof of the house.  (The "peak" of the roof was not covered by the popsicle sticks.)  

 

I threaded the wire through the whole and put a blob of hot glue inside to keep the wire from slipping.  I wanted to cover the peak of the roof, so I decided to use glitter to make the roof look like it was covered with snow in places.  I brushed Mod Podge on the roof where I wanted the "snow" to go.

I covered the Mod Podge with glitter.  Then my little Christmas house ornament was complete.

This was a fun Christmas project, and I love that I was able to recycle something that would have gone in the trash.  I have gotten OJ from BK a couple of other mornings in the past two weeks, so I have the supplies to make more houses!  In my opinion, Christmas is the best crafting time of the year. :)
