Clemson Wreath--GO TIGERS!

During football season, my husband is all about Clemson football!  (Well, actually, it's all year long, but I digress....)  Though I'm not quite as exuberant about football season as he is, I do pull for the Clemson Tigers!  I have seen all the yarn wrapped wreaths on the internet, and I saw Kimberly's awesome team wreath on her blog Simply Living a while back.

I have made some different wreaths for friends and family, but I wanted to make one for myself.  (I'm really bad about always making stuff for other people and never making anything for myself!)  Kimberly inspired me to make a Clemson wreath.  I started out with a straw wreath form and some purple yarn.

I took the plastic off of the wreath form, but I'm not so sure I should have done that.  Every time I worked on wrapping the wreath, I had to get the vacuum out to clean up the mess.  Not fun.  Also, it took me a LONG TIME to wrap the wreath!  I'm talking like four episodes of Law & Order!  Maybe I just didn't have the right technique.  I don't know.  So my recommendation to you would be to get a styrofoam wreath form and wrap the wreath when there are some good tv shows on!

I had an oval wooden plaque and some small wooden letters I purchased from Wal-mart that I wanted to use on the wreath.

I painted the oval plaque orange and decoupaged an orange patterned piece of scrapbook paper to the top.  I used my Silhouette to cut a tiger paw out of card stock.  I decoupaged the "stencil" of the tiger paw to the top of the plaque.  (If you have a Silhouette, you can use it to trace and cut image files you get off of the internet.  That's how I got the actual Clemson Tiger paw.)
I painted the letters with plain purple and glittery purple paint.  I glued them to little wooden rectangles I painted orange and glued a ribbon to the back of the rectangles to create a banner.  I also made different types of flowers out of fabric and felt.  And I covered a couple of silk flowers with Mod Podge and glittered them.  Before I applied all the embellishments to the wreath, I wrapped orange yarn around the wreath in a crisscross pattern.  Then I glued all the embellishments on with hot glue.

Here's a close up of the awesome paw.  (Gosh, I love my Silhouette!)

Here are all my different flowers.  I think it may need a few more....

I love how the wreath is all about the Tigers, but it's still a bit girly.  I'm not completely sure that it goes with my bright green door, but one things for sure: the door makes the wreath pop!  If you were to ask my husband, he would probably say this is his favorite craft I've made, even if it does have a couple of sparkly flowers on it! ;)
