Hi, everyone! Yesterday was a very busy day for me. I worked on three different projects at one time: a dresser and chest of drawer, a lamp, and a table top. I only finished the lamp, so I wanted to share it with y'all. I am so happy with the way it turned out!
My mom had this lamp at her house. It was banished to a room where, right now, there are a lot of things stored. She and I have been talking about a project at her house for a while now. We talked about getting an old milk can to make into a lamp. The other day we were sitting in this "storage room." I saw the lamp and thought to myself, "You have got to get mom to get rid of that lamp. It's so 90's country!" As I was looking at it, I realized that it was shaped like an old milk can! I pointed this out to mom and told her we could spray paint it and use it! (Boy, did I get excited then! I love reusing things and saving money!)
So yesterday, I pulled out my Krylon burgundy spray paint and got to work! I taped off the top of the lamp and the cord and sprayed the lamp. I realized after two coats that little miss bunny was not going without a fight! I sprayed her with Kilz spray primer. After the primer dried, I sanded it with 220 grit sandpaper and repainted that part burgundy again. (Everything I know about spray painting I learned from All Thing Thrifty's spray painting tutorials and tips!) After the new paint job, the lamp looked much better! But I wasn't finished yet...
I recently purchased a Silhouette machine, and I am in LOVE! I used my Silhouette to create a label for the can out of re-positional vinyl. (I'm glad it was re-positional because it took me a few times to get it straight!) And here is what the finished lamp looks like...
Isn't she so pretty now! The lamp is still country, but a retro/modern country! My mom and dad loved it!!! So take time to look at items before you give them away or throw them in the trash. They may just need a little tender care to turn into something you no longer want to part with! ;)
This is a really fun project - I LOVE old milk crates and I think the update you gave that lamp is fantastic! Great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI love the update! MUCH better than the bunny. I'm a huge fan of saving things from the trash and updating them. :)
